On May 21 the Mountainair Ranger District Collaborative announced the public rollout of the latest draft Cibola Forest Plan will be posted on the USFS website on either July 19 or July 26 for public review. Public meetings for comment will follow in August and the draft plan available for written public comment until October.

The Cibola National Forest, Mountainair Ranger District is again looking at the opportunity to conduct burning beginning tomorrow, May 1st and could continue through the weekend if conditions allow. The area is located north of Forest Road #275 and west of Game road. The approximate size of the first portion of planned burning is 235 acres. If burning continues past Thursday, it will remain in the same area and will add an additional 300 acres for a total of 535 acres.

SANTA FE, NM – New Mexico Counties presented Torrance County with a Workers’ Compensation Safety Award for Division 2 during the 2019 NMC Legislative Conference January 17, 2019 in Santa Fe. Torrance County received its award for achieving a positive claim trend and lowering the frequency of workers’ compensation claims over the last three years for 2018. The counties are divided into five divisions based on the number of employees. For this award, the county received a $7,000 contribution refund. The county has received the safety award four times with one honorable mention.
